Indian govt propose new IT policy to create 10 million new jobs and revenue of $ 300 billion by 2020

Indian government’s ministry of information technology unveiled the draft policy on information technology, 2011 that is aims to create exports worth $ 200 billion and a total revenue of $ 300 billion by 2020 from the IT and ITes sector. Presently the export value is worth $ 59 billion, while the revenue is $ 88 billion at present. The 80 per cent revenues of Indian IT sector comes from export.The policy will target to create a pool of 10 million skilled workers. The sector employs over 2.5 million skilled people

India’s IT service export project to grow by 16-18 percent during the year despite economic uncertainty

India's software industry body Nasscom has projected 16-18 per cent growth for the IT services in the current fiscal despite global slow down. Som Mittal, President, Nasscom, said that despite the economic uncertainty in the US and European markets, there is no reason for India to be worried. Licence cancellation threat looms large over telecom operators for unutilised spectrum

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended for cancellation of 53 licences of telecom operators due to their failure to start services. It is proposed to take final decision on recommendations of the TRAI after taking into consideration legal advice in this regard. This statement was given by Milind Deora, the Minister of State Communication and Information Technology in response to a question in the parliament. Earlier notices were sent to Aircel, Dishnet, Etisalat DB, Idea, Sistema Shyam, Spice and Vodafone for not utilising allotted spectrum.

The export of software in the current financial year is projected to touch US$ 68-69 billion. Indian govt plans creation of US$ 4.5 billion (Rs. 20,000 crore) national optical fibre network to improve last mile connectivity in rural areas

The network will provide broadband connectivity to village panchayats as recommended by telecom commission. This was stated in a press statement by Kapil Sibal, minister of communication and information technology. The objective of the scheme is to extend initially the existing optical fibre network which extends up to districts to the village level by utilizing universal service obligation fund (USOF). India receives 17.9 million tourists during last fiscal registering 24 percent growth, Maharashtra tops by hosting 5 millions of them

Foreign tourist visits to the country registered an impressive growth of 24.2% in the year 2010. The number of foreign tourist visits (FTVs) during the year 2010 was 17.9 million as compared to 14.4 million in 2009 and 2008. This shows an impressive growth of 24.2% over 2009 as compared to a decline of 0.1% in 2009 over 2008.
The top ten States in terms of number of FTVs (in millions) during 2010 were Maharashtra (5.1), Tamil Nadu (2.8), Delhi (1.9), Uttar Pradesh (1.7), Rajasthan (1.3), West Bengal (1.2), Kerala (0.66), Bihar (0.64), Himachal Pradesh (0.45) and Goa (0.44).
